Did you know that premature birth is the leading cause of newborn death in the first month of life? As well, it is on the rise - up 27% since 1981. Unfortunately, it can happen to any pregnant woman. Statistics show that 1 in 8 babies is born premature. Some do not survive while others have irreparable birth defects. For over 25 years Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has partnered with the March of Dimes to help promote infant health and fight premature births. That is why the Omicron Lambda Alpha Chapter (OLA) of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is asking you to support the March of Dimes.

OLA is excited about working with the March of Dimes' annual March for Babies (formerly WalkAmerica)! OLA plans to provide hands on support during the day of the event, April 27, 2008. OLA is raising money to donate and invites you to participate in this quick e-donation drive with just the click of a button.

Where does my donation go?

43 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Family Support (NICU) Projects works with families of critically ill newborns and staff to develop customized services, which could include support for siblings and extended families, helping the family cope with the NICU experience, easing the transition from hospital to home and, if needed, bereavement support. By years, with your help, there will be a NICU Family Support project in every state, Washington DC, and Puerto Rico.

OLA's goal is to raise $1,400 by asking 250 friends, family members and supporters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. to donate $7 (a dollar in memory of each of our founders). Please support us in this effort to raise money for research to end the crisis of babies born premature.
